menu planning: the MIL is coming addition

2011 November 14

I have not been in a mood to blog as of late. As you may have guessed by, well, the lack of blogging going on around here. I’ve got a lot on my mind these days. Most of it is good, but most of it would be of relatively little interest to you. Point in fact:

  • we’re starting the paperwork to become Belgian citizens. It’s a long, confusing process. And it’s all in French. Or in Dutch, if you prefer. (I don’t prefer.) Plowing through the paperwork is taking a lot of time. It will be worth it in the end, but oh, goodness the drudgery. And I’m a person that likes doing paperwork.
  • my French course is all I can handle. And more. Much, much more. I’m learning a lot, so I’ll continue. But I’m beginning to think that what I need isn’t another, more advanced course. No, what I need is to get out there and actually use my French. I’ve found some volunteer opportunities that would be really good for me to take on. Except, because of  my French course, I don’t have the time to go out and apply it. Ahh, the irony.
  • My mother-in-law is arriving Wednesday for a two-month stay. In stunning coincidence, my house cleaners have apparently quit on me. Guess what I’m doing for the next few days?
That pretty much brings you up to date. Huh, when I write it out it doesn’t sound like much. Trust me, it’s taking all my attention. But in a feeble attempt to keep this blog going and simplify at least one facet of my life, here’s our menu for the upcoming week. It’s filled with filling family favorites that are quick to prepare and hopefully appetizing to my omnivorous in-law :)
And… with that, I’m back to work :)

MIL for two months… I hope you stocked up on alcohol. But wait. You quit that. What in the hell are you going to do???! I’m breaking out in hives just thinking of it for you.

When is your class done? I think you should definitely get out there and USE your French. Best way to learn. :) xo!

I think overall the visit will be fine – my MIL is pretty low key, all things considered. It’s more the matter of having someone – anyone – in my house for that long. We live a pretty isolated life here, so it’s a bit of a culture shock to have someone around all the time.

The French course doesn’t finish until June. Well, the first course ends at the end of January, but I’m signed up for the second term already, too. That’s what I get for thinking ahead :)

Dude, I hope you have booze.

The plus side to all those French classes? You can cuss out your MIL and she’ll never know the difference.

It would drive me insane to have someone else living in my home for 2 months! Heck having my grown son in my house for 3 months this summer nearly drove me out of my mind! Hope you get to enjoy each other’s company for at least some of that time! Belguim citizenship means you probably aren’t coming back here anytime soon….boo!! French scares me so the fact that you are doing so well in it is an amazing thing to me!

i love that these people forget that you’re booze free – that’s enough to drive anyone to drink let along a MIL (or really anyone) in your personal space for months. {{{hugs}}} you’re gonna need ‘em!
